Every year around this time, the same thing happens. The Black Friday hype kicks in, and suddenly it feels like everyone is buying something not because they truly need it, but because the ads, influencers, and even the people around them make it seem like you should want it too. That quiet voice inside that whispers, “everyone else has it… maybe I need it too” is exactly how holiday money traps start pulling us in without realizing it.

And here’s the part that shocked me this year…

I recently realized that a lot of these “deals” were never deals to begin with. I watched prices before Black Friday and saw the game clearly: something that’s been $9.99 all year mysteriously shows up with a loud “80% OFF → $19.99” tag. Nothing changed except the marketing. The price was the same, but the illusion of urgency made it feel like we were winning.

This year, Americans hit a new record ~9 billion spent in a single day! A whopping number that makes you pause and ask yourself, was I part of that number? Did I buy that shoe because I truly needed it, or because the sale made it feel like I did?

You know, the real trap doesn’t start on Black Friday because December walks right in behind it with holiday parties, gift exchanges, Secret Santas, etc. “Treat yourself, you deserve it.” And maybe you do deserve something but maybe what you deserve isn’t another package on your doorstep.

Maybe it’s financial peace.
Maybe it’s waking up in January without anxiety.
Maybe it’s finally avoiding holiday debt instead of repeating the cycle every year.
Maybe it’s having a fully funded savings account or an emergency cushion for those rainy days that always come.

Here’s the truth we’re scared to admit – our holiday spending rarely comes from need. It comes from pressure, emotions, and expectations—internal and external. That’s how we end up with credit card balances we didn’t plan for, buy-now-pay-later payments following us into spring, and the silent stress of knowing we overspent, again!

Imagine giving yourself something entirely different this year.

Not a gadget, not perfume, not the new wigs or shoes. Imagine giving yourself the freedom that comes from living below your means, saving intentionally, and investing in your future instead of consuming for the moment. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t make noise on social media. But it lasts a whole lot longer than anything you can buy on sale.

Here’s a gentle reminder as I virtually hold your hand, you don’t need to buy something just because someone else has it.
You don’t need every deal. You don’t need to prove anything with your purchases.

Protect your peace, build your foundation and choose the life you want not what ads are selling you.

And if you’re ready to make that shift…
